Why The amazon?

We are a business collective committed to enabling Amazonian communities to access the global economy.

Why is the forest important for the world?

The Amazon forest is one of a handful of vitally important ecosystems that provide significant value for the natural world, and for all humankind. Forests like the Amazon are able to produce trillions of litres of clean water. To produce trillions of kilos of life-giving oxygen. And are able to offer a home and sanctuary to many billions of plants and creatures. Significantly contributing to  farming and medical sectors with produce that can only be found in the forest biome.

Why is the forest so important for Latin America?

Numerous sources believe that without the Amazon forest there will be dire consequences for many who live in latin America. The forest is a vital source of food, water and oxygen, which if lost, could make many of LatAm’s citizens environmental refugees by the end of the century. Not to mention the millions of Indigenous people who have called the forest home for tens of thousands of years. With this in mind, we seek to save the forest to secure the well-being and futures of almost 1 billion people.

The Amazon rainforest is the biggest forest of its kind anywhere in the world

But it wasn’t always the case. The last forest to hold the title existed in the Sahara desert. Once the home to a beautiful and vast forest, which was lost during a period of climate change. The Amazon rainforest may lose the title too, this time due to the actions of people. Significant forest burning and commercial activities threatening to destroy the entire ecosystem.

How vast is the amazon forest?

The forest covers an enormous 6.7 million square kilometers. Spanning 8 countries in South America. Over twice the size of India or 28 times larger than the UK, for comparison.

It’s believed to be the home of 10% of all known species on Earth.

It is the home of 47 million people and 400 different Indigenous tribes.

With nearly 400 billion trees still standing in the forest

Storing almost 200 billion tons of carbon.

How quickly are we losing the forest?

The stats vary but we believe that areas the size of 3-5 football pitches are lost every minute. Most days. And we believe that 19% of the forest has been lost in the last 100 years, most of that loss in the last few decades. Over the size of France. We believe that an irreversible tipping point could be reached once 20-25% of the forest has been lost.

We at Navi Global are now one of many organisations committed to stopping this tipping point from being reached. By helping to connect funders and investors to those most able to stop it. The Amazonian community of Indigenous peoples.
